We have a 3.5 update 4 two node cluster where we have production VMs.
Developers have installed ESXi on a standalone machine that has no access to shared storage used by the cluster, so i have to find a way to move VMs from the ESXi host to the cluster over the network; it is acceptable to turn off the VMs while moving them.
I was thinking about ssh(ftp or any other mean but using ESXi with no service console i don't know what is the best thing to do, i was wondering if someone can suggest a way to do this, also considering that i've never used ssh to move file so i will need indications there as well.
Thank you in advance.
AFAIK you can connect to ESXi and ESX and do it directly. I use it to copy directly between ESX servers. I don't have ESXi, but that should not make a difference.
The tool uses SSH as a control channel, but data is copied using FTP directly between hosts.

I always use Veeam's FastSCP for moving files between ESX.

If i do it this way it will go from ESXi to my pc and then from my pc to ESX.
I was hoping for a way to do this straight from the esxi host to the cluster to speed up operations.
