The request failed because the remote server tool too long to respond

I have been trying to change the ntp configuration on our 3 ESXi servers. On 2 it worked ok but the third server was slow to respond in the VI client and then failed to change the settings and gave an error "The request failed because the remote server took too long to respond". I was connecting through the virtual center management server.

When trying to connect directly to the esxi server using the VI client I get the same error "The request failed because the remote server took too long to respond"

Does anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi,

In this case looks like the hostd process is stalled or not responding.

can you try to login to the server console, and restart the hostd, this should work.

Also as a basic measure, can you try to ping that server, as network might also be an issue.

As console access is not supported for ESXi, you would want to try restarting the management network in the DCUI.
