Technical support for VMWare Esx3i

Hi Everyone,

we are planning to deploy VMWare ESX 3i which is free on HP Proliant DL 380.

1) What kind of support should we buy from VMware ? Gold or Platinum. Do you feel this is need?

2) Are their any known issues that I need to be aware of?

3) Apart from technical support, are their any addons which are necessary?

1. buy whatever package supports your needs, ie: if you need 24x7, well then buy that one

2. too broad of a question really, id say live and breath on these forums for a while....

3. Depends on your needs, do you need HA/DRS? or any other advanced features... then youll want to look at setting up a vCenter server, but with a single host... it wont be needed until you get more than one host up and running... Take a look at backup methods.. do you plan to use traditional backups? or a Image Level type setup? ...

Obviously these are just a few and just barley break the ice... so your Mileage may vary

I guess, my question is - is it really needed. the support. do people commonly buy it - or can you really do away without it?

how do I justify it?
