Team esxi - etherchannel cisco

Hi,

I have a team of 2 ethernets in esxi3.5u4. These ethernets are connected to two ports of a switch Cisco.

These 2 ports of Cisco should be forming an etherchannel in order that the link esxi-cisco switch be more efficient?

Thanks.

Yes, If you want to use "Route based on IP hash" policy.

Hi

We did not configure Etherchannel. Our networking dep. say we will not gain much by doing it. I think it is only related to

Inbound traffic. So we just use the NIC teaming setting "Route Based on the originating virtual port id" on the vSwitch

Although theoratically you should have better load balancing I hardly ever see anyone actually using it because of the added complexity and the added load on the vmkernel. I advise my customers to use Virtual Port ID for VM traffic, it's a lot easier to set up and less error prone.
