Snapshot Explanation

Hi there

I would like to really understand what happend when I create a snapshot whitout the memory of the VM and

what really happend when I create a VM with memory snapshot.

Any help would be appreciated

You don't take snapshots with or without memory!?

You take snapshots of halted or of running guests...

If the guest is halted, the snapshot starts only a new diff diskfile.

If the guest is running, the snapshot additionally creates a file with the system state (RAM, CPU and other needed system informations).

When you take snapshot of the VM with snapshot of the VM's memory it write down the content of the virtual machine's memory to a file (*.vmsn). So when you revert the mahcine it will take you the exact spot of the snapshot with VM being powered on. If you do not select to snapshot the VM's memory you will not be able to capture the running VM's memory state, only Setting state and disk state will be copied.
