I did a fresh minimal install of Ubuntu 8.10 32bit on a fresh VM created using ESXi 3.5u4.
Before I installed the VMTools OSP I did:

apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade

I followed the instructions from http://www.vmware.com/pdf/osp_install_guide.pdf except that I changed the Ubuntu release from hardy to intrepid since I was using Ubuntu 8.10 and not 8.04.
I installed the server package with nox support and propietary software.
The package installation went without a hitch so I rebooted the guest.
When I rebooted the guest VM I got 2 error messages:

Guest memory manager: failed
Guest vmxnet fast network device: failed

I then shut down the vm and readded the network card as enhanced vmxnet but it still fails.
Is there a way I could fix this?
