I have a test setup running on my ProLiant DL360G3 server (2x 3.06Ghz Xeon, 2GB-RAM, 36.4GB U320 SCSI drive as system drive)
First I had VMware ESXi 3.5 u5 directly from VMware itself running on the server.
Then I realised that I better switched to the HP flavor of the same version of ESXi server, in order to have server monitoring.
At that point I only had 1 virtual machine up and running (Windows 2008 server standard), I fired up converter standalone, and 'converted' the VM on the ESXi server to an ova file on my fileserver. This went without problem.
Now after installing the HP version of ESXi 3.5 u5 I cannot get this .ova file back onto the ESXi server.
The converter starts the process but then after a couple of minutes stops with an error "Failed to clone disk c:\windows\temp\...."
Looking in the convert log file I can see:
error = (converter.fault.CloneFault) {
dynamicType = <unset>,
faultCause = (vmodl.MethodFault) null,
description = "Sysimgbase_Nfc_PutFile failed",
msg = "An error occurred during the conversion.",
},
Any ideas on how to tackle this one?
Thanks a million in advance!
I don't remember if the VI client is able to import the ova file directly or not. Have a look.
Which version of the Converter were you using? Have a look at the OVF tool http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/vsphere/automationtools/ovf
