Plug n Play when adding supported Gbit NIC?

I'm about to install a Gbit NIC (Intel Pro 1000 PT (PCIe)) in an existing ESXi server.

Will it be detected and driver/s installed automatically or is it easy to do manually?

If it's lots of trouble I'll probably wait and replace the system disk at the same time (reinstallation).

No worries, if you find it on the HCL then the drivers come with ESX and all you need to do is stick it in and boot again.
