Planning for deployment

Im trying to find a paper or guide on how to plan for an ESXi deployment, but cant seem to find anything????! (must be looking in the wrong places)

Can anyone shed any light or point me in the right direction of how to plan the physical hardware requirements for the virtual environment?

I presume there is a basic rule of thumb that maps for a virtual server or for x virtual servers you need x server specification.

you should check the compatibility guide to find out if your hardware is certified:

the hardware environment depends much on what load (database,exchange,...) you are want to run on it, and what features (virtualcenter, vmotion, ha) do you plan to use.

for the enterprise features, you need always virtualcenter server and an shared storage!
