I'm running a Windows 2003 R2 VM on a Dell 1800 server with one 3GHz CPU and a PERC 4DC RAID controller.
The VM is a Domain Controller and a file server for a small company with about 8 users.
The file server is a member of a DFS replicated namespace, replicating with a second fileserver on a different site.
When someone copies a large (100MB+) file to a DFS replicated share the vCPU of the VM goes to 100% and stays there for a while.
It's the DFSR.exe service causing the CPU load.
When this happens my users are complaining about hang and sluggishness on the file server.
I've tried to disable AntiVirus checking on the "DFSprivate" folder without any luck.
I know I'm running ESXi on unsupported hardware (Dell 1800 and only one pCPU) but it's running only 1 VM with about 5 users connected simultaniously.
Is there any more tunig I can perform on the VM or ESXi to make it better when the DFS replication service is working on incoming and changed files?
