Paravirtualization Pros and Cons

My company is considering trying out VMware ESXi's paravirtualization support with some of our virtual machines that are

running Ubuntu 9.10 Server. As I understand, that OS has native support for paravirtualization built in.

Can anyone provide me with what you feel are the pros and cons of using paravirtualization, and any

potential pitfalls we may not have considered?

Thanks!

Tom

Hello.

The biggest con would be that guest OS kernel-based paravirtualization is scheduled to be retired.

Good Luck!

Thanks! I presume that post you linked to means that they are counting on things like hardware-based virtualization support, such as Intel VT, to supplant the need for the VMI? However, we are running a number of ESXi hosts on hardware that don't support virtualization technology, so we could benefit from any performance boosts we can get at this point.
