New to ESXi - network problem

Hi All,

I recently install the free version of ESXi and install 2 windows 2003 server virtual machine. I have 2 nic card connected to our company network.

Host IP - 10.5.4.24

Server2003A - 10.5.4.23

Server2003B-10.5.4.22

Both server 2003 can

• connect Internet and ping the host (10.5.4.24)

• Ping the company network

• BUT Not able to ping the other VM on the same box

Company network can ping the host but not both VM server 2003

I try to look for the info from google and some VMware books in past few days but no luck. Can any one help?

Sounds like an arp problem. From one vm, ping the other's IP address, and then check your arp table (arp -a). See if the MAC address is correct for the vm you are trying to ping.

Do they have the right gateway configured? Same as everything else I assume?

Whats your esxi network configuration, specifically the vswitch and port group setup? Possibly you can screen dump it for us?

server2003A - 10.5.4.23

• It can ping host 10.5.4.24, physical and server2003B 10.5.4.22

• internet access ok

• same subnet and gateway

Server2003B - 10.5.4.22

• It can ping Host , physical but not server200A

• internet access ok

Physical network

• It can ping Host

• it can ping server2003B

• It can't ping Server2003A

I would try this, disconnect one vm, and try your pings and see if all is successful. Then, reconnect, and disconnect the other server, and retest.
