Just a suggestion.

Maybe you can check the pins on the NIC just to ensure the nic cable is making a good contact.

You can use a tweezer and pull the pins down. Maybe a lot of pluginng and unplugging may have pushed the pins up and the contacts are not making a good contact.

Again - Just a suggestion

Sometimes this can be casused by spanning tree on the switch. If you are sure to wich interface are you connected try to config it as portfast.

Also you can try setting manually an IP for vswif0 and test connectivity.

Regards.

Did you try any of the Driver CDs?

Go to the ESXi download page. There is a tab called Drivers & Tools. Download the latest Broadcom disk.

http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/esx_esxi_40_broadcom_bnx2_dt/ZCV0YmRqZHRidHdw

Install the latest Broadcom drivers and then try it.
