Migrate VM

How can you migrate a vm from one datastore to another datastore using VIClient? I do not have VCenter. Can you just move the VM to the other datastore?

Thanks,

shared storage? If so, power down the VM, remove from inventory, browse the datastore and add to inventory on the other host. You could also use Veeam's FastSCP, or VMware Converter.

It is on the same host but a datastore that is on our new SAN. Would to move vm files from the local host storage to the san storage.

I would use VMware vCenter Converter then, it's the easiest and most effective way, in my opinion.

Yes, if your vm is on the local host , you need to move it to common storage.

Then login to the ESX where you want to host the vm.

Browse the datastore where your vm is residing, go to .vmx file and register the vm.
