Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2007 restore in a VM guest?

I know I might be tilting at windmills here, but has anyone tried to use Microsoft DPM 2007 to do a bare metal restore into a VMware guest?

I have a DPM 2007 server and I have done a bare metal recovery back onto the physical box so I know that works, but I've run into trouble trying it into the virtual server. Has anyone tried something like this?

I am looking at using DPM as a replacement for my standard tape backup with Symantec BackupExec or snapshots with Symantec System Recovery. I would like the new backup solution to be able to be restored in a VM environment for disaster recovery purposes.

What does everyone think? Am I dreaming or will this work?

Mike

We're about to implement the same thing here. Is there a Microsoft DPM client for VMware? Like to backup individual VM's like VCB can? (and like it can backup Hyper-V) I've looked around on the Microsoft sites but can't get a straight answer. Looks like they want you to backup the VM's as physical machines. Thanks in advance!
