Maximum storage that can be presented to a VM?

Hello all,

If we ignore the fact that you can run an iSCSI initiator or an NFS client from within a guest OS to gain access to storage, what's the maximum amount of storage that you can present to a VM?

My calculations:

  • Max virtual disk/LUN size: 2 TB

  • Max virtual SCSI controllers: 4

  • Max targets per virtual SCSI controller: 15

Therefore the maximum storage that a VM can access is (4*15) * 2 = 120 TB

Right or wrong?

Cheers,

Bucket

True if you use VMDK, or RDM.

But wrong Smiley Wink

If you have iSCSI, you can also use a software initiator inside the VM.

In this case you do not have the limit of 2 TB for each disk.
