Importing an OVA File into VI

One of our customers has given us an OVA file to import into our Virtual Infrastructure running ESXi 3.5 hosts. However, I don't seem to be able to find a way to do this. Neither the appliance import or Converter Enterprise like this file.

I'm not clear what the distrinction is between OVA and OVF files and why VI doesn't like the former.

Suggestions gratefully received.

I have no problem to import .ova using converter 4.0.0. What converter you use btw?

vcbMC-1.0.6 Beta

vcbMC-1.0.7 Lite

I found I could use Converter 4 with ESXi 3.5.

I think VMware should have drawn more attention to this fact. I don't feel it's very clear what the relationship is between the various Converter tools, their licences and their support for OVF/OVA

Is there any reason you'd want to use Converter Enterprise over the standalone v4 release?
