ISO images from DVDs

I would like to create a library of ISO files with original CD's and DVD's on my ESXi server. I am using WinISO and are uploading the ISO files with the VI client. So far so good. However only the ISO's made from CD's can be mounted in the VMs and none of the larger DVD ISO's is readable. Since all my Windows Server 2008 media are DVD's, this is problematic. I have tried to mount the ISO's locally and through the VI console. CD's work and DVD's don't. I can burn the DVD ISOs to DVD-R's and they can be mountet just as easily as the original DVD's.

Is this a limitation or am I doing someting wrong?

You're doing it wrong. I've had no issues with DVD images on my datastores. Try creating the disk images with ImgBurn.

Just want to confirm the issue with DVD ISOs. What I found was that they would not read from the initial CD/DVD rom device created with the VM. The workaround I came up with was to create another CD/DVD Rom device and mount my ISO there. The ISOs are 2008 Server DL'd from Microsoft. They are being stored on an NFS datastore.

WinISO hasn't been updated in years, and only supports CD-sized images. Use a different tool to create larger (DVD) sized ISO images. Personally I use UltraISO (only $30 registration for life, and frequent updates).
