I/O Errors with ESXI 3.5u5 and Adaptec 2940u2w

Hello,

I am using an Adaptec 2940U2W HBA with ESXI 3.5U5. I am receiving random I/O errors under highload conditions.

which is exactly discribing the problem.

Target 0 Negotiation Settings

User: 80.000MB/s transfers (40.000MHz, offset 127, 16bit)

Goal: 3.300MB/s transfers

Curr: 3.300MB/s transfers

Channel A Target 0 Lun 0 Settings

Commands Queued 480

Commands Active 0

Command Openings 64

Max Tagged Openings 64

Device Queue Frozen Count 0

I treid to edit the esx.conf file no success. I also tried the esxcfg-module command also no success.

esxcfg-module -g shows the correct options.

/proc/scsi/aic7xxx # esxcfg-module -g aic7xxx

aic7xxx enabled = 1 options = 'dv:{1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1}'

But I could not find any option or command to force the esxi 3.5 host to recreate the initrd file.

Does somebody knows how o force an initrd rebuild under esxi 3.5u5 ?

The knowledgebase article refers to ESX 3 not ESXi 3.5 so most of the article is irrelevant. Do you have any other devices connected to the card? tape??

Hello,

there are only three SCSI disk connected to this controller. I tried it also with an adaptec 2940uw same picture.

You have checked the adaptec bios settings?

I'm not sure you can change very much but you can have a look through the configuration tab advanced settings to see what vmkernel changes are available to you.
