How to obtain Consolidated Backup 1.5?

We have several VMWare ESXi 3.5 servers we are trying to backup with third party backup software (CommVault Simpana), however the software requires that the Consolidated Backup application be installed on the proxy server that is managing the backup. Apparently, VMWare used to sell this as a standalone program for around $500, but I'm told by the VMWare sales department that it is no longer available. VSphere 4.1 supposedly includes Consolidated Backup, but this version does not appear to be compatible with ESXi 3.5. I've made several calls to VMWare, but they can't find any way to provide me with this application. Does anyone know of a way to obtain this program?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Roby,

Welcome to the forums.

Go to VMware downloads for VI 3.5 and select VCB 1.5 Update 2.

Hope it helps;

Thanks, Frank, but when I click on the link it states that VCB for ESX 4.0 is not available for download and I should call the sales dept. I contacted them hoping I could purchase a copy of 1.5, but they said it was no longer available.

On the face of it, 1.5 update 2 is attached to 4.0. So if you don't have a vSphere license, maybe you are not allowed to download this version. I just tested and downloaded "VMware-vcb-102898.exe" and "VMware-vcb-226297.exe".

But 1.5 looks to be part or VMware Infrastructure 3.5. If you click on the second link I mentioned and choose 1.5, are you allowed to download it?

Hope it helps.

Regards

Franck

No, it brings me to a page for "VMware Consolidated Backup for ESX 4.0", which is supposedly not compatible with 3.5.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

It is compatible: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf

But you can also download old version of VCB.

Or if you want to download the U2 version, ask for a trial of vSphere and download it.

Hi,

vsphere trial does not include vcb (4.1 u1)

Neither on the dvd nor as a separate download.

For a customer's lab i need that for testing but I'm stuck here too.

Any suggestions?

You must download VCB from 4.0 download.

There isn't in 4.1 download area.

Hi Andre,

it's not about a download area.

There is no trial for vsphere 4.0 only vsphere 4.1 u1 where vcb is not included.
