How to include vmware tools (windows.iso) to diskless PXE booted ESX 3.5i servers

Hi all,

I have configured several servers to boot from PXE, all of them diskless and connected to iSCSI LUN. The problem I have now is not being able to install vmware tools on VMs running on those hosts, because windows.iso (and all other vmware tools files) are not copied to the server during PXE boot. Trying to install vmware tools results in "A general system error occured: Internal error" or "Error when upgrading tools." depending if I try interactive or automatic upgrade.

So I need to either include windows.iso in PXE boot so it gets transfered to the server, or somehow alter the location from which virtual center tries to mount .iso file.

As for PXE, I tried including windows.iso in "default" PXE boot file :

*****************

label ESXi

menu label DEFAULT INSTALLATION OF ESX 3.5i

kernel mboot.c32

append vmkernel.gz --- binmod.tgz --- environ.tgz --- cim.tgz --- oem.tgz --- lance-boot.tgz --- configBundle.tgz --- windows.iso

ipappend 2

******************

Windows.iso is transfered to the server on boot, but afterwards is nowhere to be found. I'm guessing I should include it in configBundle.tgz, but am not sure if this would work.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
