How to get VM details which failed over due to HA from ESX logs

Hi,

I have an esx host, which crashed and it failed over all running VM's from the host to other host in DRS.

I checked AAM logs from /var/log/vmware/aam however, there is no details of which VM's were running on it, and failed over to other host.

I know, we can get these details from VC, however is there any log file for this, which VM's were failed from the Host?

Hi,

You can get the VPXD.LOG from the below location in the virtual center server as follows:

• vCenter Server 2.5-5.0 on Windows XP, 2000, 2003: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs\
  
• vCenter Server 2.5-5.0 on Windows Vista, 7, 2008: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs\
  

In this log all the action of the failover vms will be listed, you can grab the information from that location.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, however it only keeps data for 2-3 days.

I want to get list of servers which were failed over 2 weeks ago.

I know, this can be achieved by querying VC database.

Are there additional logs saved on host logs for this?

All this VM failovers will be logged in VMkernel log of the host. but as you told its already 2 weeks, so the logs would be over-written by this time.
