How many small VM’s on a host?

Hi,

I have a HP DL360 2 x CPU with 8 cores total.

Use it to run 50 dedicated monowall firewalls.

If I watch the recourses on the ESX only half is used.

But from time to time, a monowall stops working and needs reloading. The issue is always 100% cpu on the VM that does not work.

When running 40 monowalls only, it seems to be stable.

Are there a stabile limit regarding the amount of vCPU on a single core?

Best regards

Martin

Well, looks like when you have 50VM running CPU is saturated. check Ready time on VM, has to be below 1500 ms, if it's more that means you have oversubscribed CPU resources to much and need more CPU power to handle VM workload.

In VI3.5 you have limitation per Host, max is 128 vCPU per host
