HP Systems Insight Manager configuration and ESX3i

Greetings,

I have just purchased a new DL585 G5 with ESX3i embedded. It also has the HP systems insight management providers, but I don't know how to configure it. Can someone shed some light on the subject? I was poking around trying to find some information and it seems that there is not much out there or I am missing something. Thanks for your support.

What I've found so far is that the HP version of the vmware esxi does is it allows vmware to detect some of your health status of the machine. Otherwise Vmware doesn't see anything about your server health. So if you go in to the Vmware client under the Configuration tab and Health status you'll see a bunch of stuff like Processor, Memory, Power, Temperature, Fan, etc.

And that's about it. You have no way of configuring it and the only way you can see it is by using the HP SIM to coummunicate with Vmware's WBEM and even that, it doesn't give any more information than what you get out of the Vmware client.

Also it lacks any health reporting on the storage array and you'll never be notified when a drive degrades or fails.

This has been fixed finally in the ESXi Update 4 which i came out on April 1. You can run the updater from vCenter and apply the latest edition. After the updates are complete, restart your host, then open vCenter and recheck your health status. If the disk monitoring doesn't appear try refreshing the sensors and they should show up.

I'm not running CIM yet so I don't know the results there but I would assume that you can now set your monitors and alerts on the disk status. Please let me know if anyone has gotten that working properly yet.
