Hi there
I have a switch which can do GVRP with virtual hosts plugged into it. I was wondering if i could enable GVRP on the switch ports connected to hosts and then not have to configure VLANs on the switch as i create virtual networks on the hosts.
thanks
luke
Hi Luke..
vSwitches does not support GVRP or any other dynamic trunk mechanism like Ciscos VTP.
All trunking has to be configured manually on the switch side...
The same goes for link aggregation.. No support for LACP or Ciscos PAgP either.... So this needs to be configured manually.too.

thats unfortunate, means i will have to precreate VLANs on the switch. Oh well
Thanks
Luke
Luke,
Don't hold your breath, but at last year's VMworld, VMware and Cisco announced a joint venture to build an IOS-based vSwitch for ESX. When and if that happens, you'll have support for GVRP and VTP.

Paul
That sounds useful, but like you say new developments are normally a long process, thanks for the heads up
