File access

Hi,

I found several articles on how to enable SSH file access to other versions of ESX server, but none for 3i.

What is the best way, or perhaps different ways (and I can decide what will work best for us) of downloading and upload files and virtual machines to/from a ESX 3i server and what do I have to do to enable that?

Thanks.

With the VI client version 2.5 you can now copy files to and from ESX 3.5 and 3i hosts when you select the browse a datastore. The remote command line interface for ESX - http://www.vmware.com/download/download.do?downloadGroup=VI-RCLI includes the command vifs which can also copy files to and from an ESX 3i host. You may also be able to do something with VI toolkit for powershell (in beta) - http://www.vmware.com/beta/vitk_win/index.html.

Good afternoon,

I spoke to a presale's support engineer yesterday for quite a while and he told me it was possible to use WinFTP to trasnfer files (I brought it up a second & third time just to make sure since I assumed the previous reply or others I've talked to would have mentioned it by now but was reassured FTP would work fine) to and from ESX 3i using the root account. I've tried various things, including using different accounts than root since but I fail to make a connection. I read online that in previous versions of ESX the root accounts file transfer is by default disabled. Is that the case here as well? Any suggestions?

Sorry that you were misinformed. There is no ftp access.
