Esxi 3.5 U4 on DELL poweredge 2950III

Hi,

I've just bought a poweredge server from dell, model 2950III. Here is my configuration

2 Quad Core intel xeon 5430 @ 2.66 GHZ

16 Gig RAM

2 x 750Gb HDD in mirror

I downloaded the iso for VMWare ESXi 3.5 U4 and start my server with that

It's installed, I haved configurated an IP address, I can access with the VICLient

When I try to create guest 64 bits OS, I try with windows 2008 x86 64 bits dans Red hat Enterprise 5.2 64 bits and the 2 OS fail to install because it's said that my CPU doesn't support this version. So did I need to configure something else to specify that is 64 bits? In the BIOS of my physical server the 64 bits mode is enabled.

Thanks

Guillaume

Make sure in the BIO under CPU that Virtualization is ENABLED.

On Servers from HP or DELL the Virtualization Extension is disabled by default. So go back to the BIOS and enable VT. There is no need for reinstallation of ESXi after turning the extension on.
