ESXi not allowing me to change IP settings

I've installed ESXi and via the management console, I can't edit any IP settings.

I click on the Network Management thing, and it just asks to reset it. But it doesn't actually allow me to change any settings.

Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Here are the instructions from the ESX Server 3i Installable Setup Guide - If the console is not behaving properly, see if the VI Client option works.

To configure static IP settings from the direct console

1 From the direct console, select Configure Management Network and press Enter.

2 Select IP Configuration and press Enter.

3 Navigate to Set static IP address and network configuration.

4 Press the spacebar to select the highlighted item.

5 Select and delete the current IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

6 Enter a static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

7 Press Enter.

To configure static IP settings from the VI Client

1 From the VI Client, select the host in the inventory.

2 Select the Configuration tab and click Networking.

3 Click Properties next to Virtual Switch: vSwitch0.

4 Select Management Network and click Edit.

5 On the General tab, click Use the following IP settings.

6 Enter a static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

7 Click OK.

Good Luck!

That's the problem though, I'm not getting those options. I'm trying to get it to recongise it.

RTL8111 is the card I have, but vsxcfg-nics -l is returning nothing

ESXi doesn't ship with a Realtek driver that's why it doesn't come up in esxcfg-nics. Do you have an Intel Pro 100 /1000 or Broadcom 57xx you can add?
