I'm trying to instal VMWare EXSi on my personnal server and the loader hang on "Loading Module Sata_Sil...". My Sata chipset is an Silicon Image 3112A, which is a very common sata controller. I'm running an Athlon Xp 2500+ with 2Gig of ram on an Abit AN7. I have 2x80gig drive.
It may be a common SATA controller, but you'll want to verify that it's supported in the VMware HCL: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php
You might also want to check Dave's whitebox HCL's to see if it's supported or if a fix exists:

Are the SATA hard drives in your XP 2500 RAIDed together? If that is the case, it's unlikely ESXi will figure out your RAID set even if ESXi can understand a Sil 3112.

I tried both configuration with and without RAID (RAID 1).
Current BIOS for the Abit AN7 is 719 with a compile date of 06/13/2005. Might be worth a shot to see if a BIOS upgrade might help if you haven't upgraded already.
