ESXi and VM level permissions

Just an interesting observation. From what I have read, ESXi does not support this, however, using the VI client from the Virtual Center CD/ISO, I have a permissions tab for each VM, and if I set the permissions on a per user basis, they do get applied. The difference is ESXi bundles the VI client version 2.5 build 103682, the VI client bundled in the VC distribution is version 2.5 build 119598...

This seemed to come backup with Update 3 for ESXi / ESX. You used to be able to do this with ESX 3.x but it was removed when ESX(i) 3.5 came out. Seem to be a bug with at least Update 4 in which permissions on a VM don't stick after a reboot - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=84&p=370&e=370.
