ESXi and ESX License

I just found out that when you buy an ESXi license you actually get a license that say ESX and there is no problem to install ESX and not ESXi with it ?!

Of course you don't get all the extra features but as long as you want a simple stand alone server and for example you want to use some agents you can install ESX.

Is there something I'm missing or its suppose to be like this ?

I do not see why not - you can install ESXi like you do the regular version of ESX - so I do not see why the license would not work in setting a bare bones verion of ESX -

Because when you go to the VMWARE store they say "ESXi 499$"

The invoice also say ESXi

I had a problem with ESXi and wanted to use ESX and I always been told that ESX cost more and you have to buy support with it.
