ESXi Server configuration got lost after move to new harware

Hello,

we have an ESXi 3.5 Update4 Server running successfully for a while. Now our server hardware failed and we moved all disks to a new server with same hardware.

The ESXi boots fine but the datastores are lost. I can see the devices and Infrstructure Client tells me that they contain valid VMware data but warns me that they will get lost if I create a new volume.

How can I recreate the volumes that VMware will find the as before.

Some additional information:

- The correct number of VMs is listed in the I.C.

- network configuration incl. virtual switches is OK.

- The license is lost. It's in evaluation state now (58 days left).

- SSH is still enabled and all defined useres are available.

It seems that only the datastores can not be found.

How can I get ESXi to remount the existing datastores with their previously configured mountponts?

Thanks in advance

Steffen

Hi,

I found it myself: http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/no_persistent_storage_after_upgrade.php.

It describes how to rescan for volumes which get new IDs, how to rename them and how to correct the defined VMs.

So problem is solved.

Sorry for bothering ...

First be sure that you see your old VMFS partition with:

fdisk -l

Then use LVM.resignature to "mount" it again:
