ESXi 3.5 loses connection

Hi,

I have a ESXi 3.5 running on a GX755.

8GB memory, 1 TB hdd, Q6600 CPU.

I have 1 Virtual Machine running windows XP.

The problem is when I try to copy a DVD to or from that virtual machine (or any other "big" file) the connection is lost in a few minutes. I can't ping the ESX host either.

The only thing I can do is to reboot the entire ESX server. When nothing is copied across the netwerk the VM will keep its connection for as long as I keep the ESX server running.

I tried differtent Network cables (CAT6 Belkin) but it all stayes the same. Also I tried a different router. Still no effect. My whole network is wired with CAT6 belkin cables.

does anyone knows what this issue is?

Eliminate the network first. Connect your client to your host with a cat-5e crossover cable and retry.

Desktop NICs often suffer in high load situations. Either the workstation or the ESXi box.

Do you have vmware tools installed?

As J1mbo says try a crossover cable to eliminate the router/switch.

Perhaps set the HDD up as an RDM, so you can copy from outside VMware?

I know it is a workaround, but I am guessing this is test only?

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
