Is it possible to use the vi client to set the path to a central syslog server , e.g kiwi sylog server.
Or is it only working over the rcli and the script vicfg-syslog.pl?
Connect to esx3i directly and use the syslog remote host value
Hello,
did you get this working?
From the VI client, go to
configuration tab
advanced settings section
A window pops up and syslog config is actually the first item.
I've setup a couple ESXi servers to enable remote syslog, however after a reboot of the ESXi host it won't send any more log entries until I re-enable it using vicfg-syslog. I've verified that after the host has come back up that it has the correct syslog settings, both using vicfg-syslog and in the advanced setting interface in the VI client, but nothing gets logged until I re-enable it. snmp traps from this same host are successfully sent though.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any known fix? The google and this board have come up blank on this question.
This is a known problem and will be fixed with ESX 3.5 Update 3. There isn't really an easy work-around, sorry.
Thanks for the reply. This will be nice to have addressed.
