I plan on upgrading an ESX 3.02 cluster tomorrow to ESX 3.5.
I would like to use 3.5i because of its lack of a service console, we had some problems in the initial install getting the iSCSI traffic going because we have a segregated iSCSI subnet from our hosted customer (which is on a 192.168.x.x network).
Though I am quite familiar with 3.5i - I have yet to try to use software iSCSI with this version. Can it be done?

It should work without issue. You will need to create a seperate vSwitch for the iSCSI network with a kernel port assigned to the iSCSI IP range. Also you will need to ensure that iSCSI is allowed through the firewall.
