ESX 3.0.1 Virtual Machine Upgrade To ESX3.5

Hi,

I'm currently working in a complete 3.0.1 environment and thinking about installing a 3.5 server. If I migrate one of my VM's to a 3.5 host will it still be compatible in 3.0.1?

I'm guessing not as would it be similar with trying to go back from 3.0.1 to 2.x.x??

Regards

Dave

You will be able to migrate it back and forth between 3.0 and 3.5 and you can even vmotion. There is a bug with vmotion and console access going from 3.5 to 3.0 - http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003038

Once you migrate the host would you still have to upgrade the virtual hardware?

You would want to upgrade VMware Tools, but there is no virtual hardware upgrade going from 3.0.x to 3.5. See page 40 - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35/vi3_35_25_upgrade_guide.pdf.
