Hi,
I am looking for a configuration file where default settings will be stored in ESX 3i.I searched google i did n't get any information.
We can configure default settings by pressing F2 on direct console. But i want the file name where this actual information will be stored.
Your help is appriciated
/etc/vmware/esx.conf
But also other file.
In any case, do not modify the configuration at file level.

thanks for your reply.
But it is not esx.conf file.I verified it.It will be some different file.
I want to check whether Lock down mode setting is disabled or enabled for the ESXi host.So from where/which file i can confirm this information.I am unable to find if are doing some changes to this setting through DCUI(Direct console user interface) where it actually reflecting.
In google i found we can take a back up of esx configurations. But if i try the command esxcfg-cfgbackup.pl -s <backupfilename> or esxcfg-cfgbackup -s <backupfilename> .It is saying command not found.I followed this because first i can take a backup and then from that file i can check the 'Lock down mode' setting. But i am failed.
please help me out.
Currently in ESXi 3.5, lock down mode is only available in two locations to either enable/disable: vCenter when adding ESXi host or directly on the DCUI.
I don't recall if you can check the esx.conf file if it stores this information but you can retrieve the configuration file using vCLI/RCLI: vifs and this does not require r/w access to the VI API since it does not use the API to download/upload files, take a look at Dave's site for the various files you can retrieve and some examples: http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/esx_3i_rcli/vifs.php
It also sounds like you're trying the vCLI/RCLI since you're using esxcfg-cfgbackup.pl, are you doing this from Windows or Linux or VMware VIMA system? I would just ensure you pass in the full path, for Windows that's required because the path to the vCLI/RCLI is not in the PATH variable but on Linux or VMware VIMA, it should be in your PATH variable
The ability to enable/disable and verify the lock down mode feature will be available in the VI API in a future release, I don't recall if this will be in the vSphere API's but will have to wait and see.
