Creating an image form old laptop hardrive now in usb case

Is it possible to create an image direct from a laptop HD that I now have in a usb enclosure. I see the files and such like any external drive now. I was the tha main frive with xp from my old laptop. I want to image it and use it with my new laptop until I can get all the programs over.

Welcome to the VMware Community forums. VMware converter is a free tool you can use for this sort of this. That with MOA from http://sanbarrow.com will allow you to run cold clones.
