Configuring SNMP traps on update4 without RCLI?

Can anyone point me to a method for configuring SNMP traps on ESXi 3.5 update 4 using the VI client? Do the docs still point to using vicfg-snmp for setting this up?

If your'e using the free version of ESXi 3.5u4, you will not be able to use the vCLI/RCLI esxcf-snmp/vicfg-snmp to configure due to the read-only API that was fixed in U4, explained here: http://vmetc.com/2009/03/31/esxi-u4-ends-free-version-read-and-write-access-from-the-rcli/

If you're using at least the Foundation license, then you will be and you can take a look at Dave's Mishchenko's example: http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/esx_3i_rcli/vicfg-snmp.php

You always have the option of using the VI Client to manually configure.

Right, this is what I'm trying to figure out how to do. I couldn't see where this was configured using the VI client and was looking for a pointer on where this was tucked away.

I haven't see a VI option for this. You can either use the RCLI or edit the file directly / etc/vmware/snmp.xml.
