Configuration issues

Am looking at the free version of ESXi to evaluate it. Seems to install ok but when I got to configure it, i'm unable to config the network. It sets an all 0's ip and localhost address despite the best efforts of my DHCP server. Entering the network setup only gives me the option to 'reset to default settings'.

Suspecting nic issues, swapped the nic and it refused to boot. Reinstalled with the onboard nic enabled and it refused to boot up when restarting after install.

Both nics have worked fine with both windows and linux and I've also had no problems when I had VMWare Server 2 installed on both windows and linux base systems on this PC.

Anyone give me any clues as to how to get round this?

Looks like ESXi just doesn't know anything about your NIC. So you have to install NIC it knows.

You may want to search the Search the Hardware Compatibility Guide just to confirm.

Also, below is another great list you may want to look at.

Thanks for that Gents, managed to find that neither of my nics are supported so i'll have to raid the nic bin in work tomorrow as there are a few makes and models on the simple map that should be lurking in there
