Clone Performance Tuning

We run VMWARE on IBM's new XIV Storage System which is a parallel GRID-Storage System (15 Controllers doing parallel IO which works fine with VMWARE). However, the cloning process seems to be a process with only one or few IO-threads. If we could increase the number of IO-threads (as with almost all common applications), this would speedup the cloning process on XIV due to it's parallel architecture.

So my question is: is the number of IO-threads within the cloning process tunable ? Or any other hint how we could increase parallelism of this task ?

Thanks.
