Hello,
I am installing ESXi to learn more about VMs, etc. My existing network (Netgear) is not supported. Can someone make a recommendation for a cheap SUPPORTED network card? Yes, I realize there is a hardware compatibility list, however the cards I have quickly checked are pretty expensive.
Thanks
GS
Check out http://www.vm-help.com - this site has a list of hardware others have found to work in ESX(i). Almost any card with an Intel chipset will be supported - e100 or e1000. You should be able to find a few of those around for not too much money. NewEgg has a few GigE ones for $20-$50. They may not yield the best performance, but they should work.

I have had good results with: EXPI9400PT - Intel PRO/1000 PT
It is about $75
I know it works with ESXi 5.0 / 5.1.
in fact any realtek 8110 would work
last realtek chipset too
you won t find cheaper
ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 is a wonderfull MB you could use for example
