Are you trying to resolve from the service console or from the VMs?

So your DNS problem is with the VMs correct?

You are testing from the Yellow management screen and "Test Management NetworK"??

Are you using DHCP or static.

If you are using static double check your settings. Alternately try static if you are using dhcp or dhcp if you are using static. Make sure that the correct NIC is chosen or if you have multiple select only one.

Can you ping the ESXi host from another machine on that network? If this is a first time install what network adapter are you using? Is the adapter on the hardware compatibility list?

directly query the dns server (nslookup, dig). Has the host been added to dns?

Is it possible that the IP is already used?

Restarted the network or restarted the host. Different port in the switch? Different cable?

BTW the VMs inside the Host respond correctly to the ping command by IP or Name

Where is there a problem outside of the test failing?

Check to see if there is a host record for the ESXi machine in your DNS. If the VM's can ping by host name, what server are they pointing to. Is the DNS entry from the network setup correct from the Yellow screen.

What DNS server are the VM's using?

Is the DNS server on the ESXi host pointing to the same one?

Do you have two DNS servers listed on the ESXi server.

Try reversing the order of the DNS servers.

Try refreshing the DNS servers. Reread the dns data or restart the dns service.
