Just wondering if ESXI be installed on server w Red Hat as host OS? If so, where is the download for the VMWare on a linux box? Thanks so much
correct! ESXi is the Host OS and from there you can build out virtual machines of any supported flavor.

Welcome to the Forums!
ESX is the Host OS and is installed onto bare metal.
Red Hat can be your guest OS
Red Hat can be your guest OS
Using VMware Workstation, otherwise how?
Oh - ok. This is another simple question I know but to do so, all I have to do is download and burn the following ISO to disk and boot the server from it??
ESX Server 3i U3 Installable Refresh Version 3.5 Update 3 \ | 123629 - 11/06/08 | 241 MB ISO Image\md5sum: 444e1f57d1bc2296391b74e9ee406acb(¹) |

Thanks Troy. I'm sure I'll be posting again if I have any trouble!
Sorry yes your are right - not on ESXi....
Having trouble building my first virtual server. I have a DVD in the DVD rom and I thought I connected the drive to the virtual machine but all I get when I power the system up is "no operating system found". I must be doing something wrong. Any one have some helpful pointers?
I had the same problem as you. After experimenting a while, I got lucky. Try this:
At the point you get the "no operating system found" message, use CTRL-ALT-INSERT (same as CTRL-ALT-DEL) and it should instantly restart and boot from the CD in your client's drive.
I have no idea why it is necessary to do it this way, but it works.
