Best practise for configuring backup service console

Hi,

When setting up our ESX servers I followed what I thought was best practise and created a "backup" vswitch with a second service console. Both service consoles have IPs on the same subnet.

They have been working fine for for several weeks. However today I had a problem connecting to the consoles of the VMs on one of our ESX hosts. After much troubleshooting I found the below doc....

In point 8 it says to make sure you don't have 2 service consoles on the same network. (Incidentally once I removed the backup vswitch I could access the consoles.)

I therefore wanted to check this - should I not create these backup service consoles?

TIA,

-H

You don't need second service console, just a second link to SC.

Add one more NIC to SC portgroup (it can be standby NIC), that would be enough.
