Backup of physical servers using vmware convertor to esxi

Hi guys

I would like to backup few servers at one my remote sites (WAN) for bare metal recovery (kind of)

if i have vmware convertor on one of the remote servers, can i initiate a p2v transfer over the WAN.

1. will it be too slow

2. is p2v to esxi using vmware convertor standalone supported.

second scenario

if the above doesnt work (which i doubt it will)

1. build a standalone esxi server with 200 gig local disk

2. take the server to remote site, attach it to network

3. using vmare convertor p2v these servers in the remote location to the esxi box.

4. archive these p2v to tape or removable storage

what do you think?

second option

??

regards

Have a look into the OVF tool. Create an OVF locally. You could preset the OVF to the remote site as a URL and imported directly by the vSphere client. The OVF can be highly compressed. http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/vsphere/automationtools/ovf
