After update, no VMs listed in VI Client when connecting to server

I admit I'm new to ESXi. I used the VMware Infrastructure Update utility to update my server and fix the time bomb issue. That went fine.

After I rebooted the server, connected w/VI client, it listed no Virtaul Machines at all. I had to go into my datastore, and re-add each of them one-by-one. I did that, and everything is working fine, but it weas definitely a nuisance.

Is that normal, or did I miss a step/mess it up somewhere?

Hello Jason, that's not what is expected. The expected when applying a patch is that the host will come back up with the configuration as it was prior to the patch install so all your VMs would be listed, your configuration changes (vSwitches, storage) would all be there, etc.

Are you using ESXi installable or embedded?

I'm using ESXi installable.

I thought that was strange as well. Not a big issue, as obviously the VMs were still there. Just unexpected.
