Add a new disk to a VMWare ESXi 3.5 host

Hello

I have bought a brand new 1TB hard disk drive and want to add it to an existing Dell server that ir running ESXi 3.5.

Connected the HDD into the Dell, Powered it up and the DELL can see it ok.

Started VMWare Infrastructure Client went into CONFIGURATION, STORAGE ADAPTERS, hilighted my new device and selected RESCAN.

Next I select STORAGE, ADD STORAGE, Disk/LUN, next, Select my 1TB disk drive device, next,

In REVIEW CURRENT DISK LAYOUT, I can see the device but a message 'THE HARD DISK IS BLANK'  is also shown.

I do a next, give it a datastore name then next, go with defaults, next and FINISH.

This operation is then failing with thye following error message

'Error during the configuration of the host: Failed to update the disk partition information'

Any help appreciated.

Hi there Alan

Thanks for replying to my post.

I have his another issue straight away….

Trying to do step 3 (the FDISK –u)

I enter fdisk –u vmhba101:0:0:0 and it comes back with ‘unable to open vmhba101:0:0:0’ (have also tried vmhba101:0:0)

Any ideas?

Cheers

Steve.
