watch "ntpq -p" offset not changing

When I do a watch "ntpq -p" everything appears correct however; the offset never changes. If I do a ntpdate -q "time server" , the offset changes every time I run the command. I know that NTP is functioning correctly but, in the past, I know the offset was continually changing when I ran watch "ntpq -p" command.

Has something changed with the newer releases? Am I missing something?

Hello,

I would read through the documentation at http://www.ntp.org to be sure what you are looking at is correct behavior. Sometimes offsets change and sometimes not for a while at least that has been my observation. But I would consult the source of all NTP knowledge for a technical answer.

After watching it a while, I see that eventually it does change. I just remember it being more frequent.
