vmkload_mod -u : failed to remove dependency ....

Hello

i have a probem i think with a dual port PCI e-sata in a dl385G2. it uses the SATA_SIL driver .ok it is not in HCL but seems to be ok.i noted porblem only if i disconnect e-sata cable on the fly form esx. esx freezes it self and i can't reboot or hal it.

i also try service restart and other command but nothing, only with a power off and power on esx it's ok.

today same crash but with no cable unplugged

my question , i need a way to reboot with force command my esx from remote:

i try to unload some modules in vmkernel and the module SATA_SIL that i think crash esx with vmfs on external sata disks not always, but i have always

with vmkload_mod -u sata_sil --> PANIC failed to remove dependency.......

is there a FORCE option to unload all modules, so i can reboot i think my esx?

if i ALT + F12 ...see my attachment: ...storage monitor and FS3 reservation error: timeout i think in vmhba

my second question is : any suggested tested e-sata external port (not internal) pci device for esx 3.5 ?

thanks

Hello,

i have a probem i think with a dual port PCI e-sata in a dl385G2. it uses the SATA_SIL driver .ok it is not in HCL but seems to be ok.i noted porblem only if i disconnect e-sata cable on the fly form esx. esx freezes it self and i can't reboot or hal it.

Since it is not on the HCL, it could be due to this exact issue.

i also try service restart and other command but nothing, only with a power off and power on esx it's ok.

That sounds about right as the freeze is probably happening within the vmkernel.

today same crash but with no cable unplugged

Can you display the 'crash' data from the PSOD?

my question , i need a way to reboot with force command my esx from remote:

This is not something I would do. I would login to the VMs if possible using RDP and shut them down. Then I would power on/off the host. I would also look into using a supported PCI card.

if i ALT + F12 ...see my attachment: ...storage monitor and FS3 reservation error: timeout i think in vmhba

To be expected. If the system had a PANIC removing the esata_sil driver you may have issues. One thing to consider is that sometimes SATA devices work better if you use JBOD instead of RAID levels... You may wish to try that.

my second question is : any suggested tested e-sata external port (not internal) pci device for esx 3.5 ?

Check out http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/docs/vi35_io_guide.pdf for the information you require.

I try also reboot -f , but nothing.

So from home i reboot my server!!!

Thanks also for the link , i'll try a supported pci.e-sata is the best way to backup to external with low cost.

Hello,

I try also reboot -f , but nothing.

So from home i reboot my server!!!

I tend to use the ILO to do this if necessary. Not sure if you have ILO setup, but for this I would. Just be sure to secure it behind your VPN appropriately, it is definitely not something I would put on a production network but would place it on the management network or a special network just for ILO devices.

Hello,

The ILO will allow you to power on/off the system without needed to access the power button directly. I doubt the belkin SSL IP KVM has that ability. If it does then it is the first I have heard of it.
